Montreal's Saint-Patrick's Day Parade
Thousands of Montrealers brave Montreal's cold temperatures, every year on the weekend of March 16th, to cheer on the city's annual Saint-Patrick's Day Parade. Saint-Patricks day in Montreal has become a spring tradition that inevitably takes place in sub-zero temperatures. The Parade takes place in downtown Montreal on Saint-Catherine Street. All the major downtown pubs hold St. Paddy's Day events all weekend long to celebrate the special occassion.
Montreal's Saint Patrick's Day Parade is the longest running Saint Patrick's Day Parade in all of North America. 'Tis the one day of the year, as they say, when everybody wants to be Irish. Montrealers of all ethnicities come out every year for the city's rollicking St-Patrick's Day celebrations. Of course, on Saint-Patrick's day Sunday, every downtown pub suddenly decides to become Irish. So, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding yourself a little Celtic action in Montreal.
The Montreal Saint-Patrick's Day Parade normally begins at noon at the intersection of Ste-Catherine and du Fort, moving east along Ste-Catherine Street to St-Urbain. It usually lasts about two hours and contains thousands of flag-waving patriots and Irish partisans. Montreal's Saint Patrick's Day Parade is a guaranteed afternoon o'fun for the whole family!
