Although Montreal is a beautiful city to visit anytime during the year, the city is especially nice and very festive during the Christmas holidays. Montreal is a wonderful city that truly comes alive during the Christmas holidays. Most Christmases in Montreal are cold and you are almost certainly going to have snow on the ground. But this is all part of the charm of Christmas in Montreal.
Montreal is a city that takes the Christmas season very seriously. All of downtown Montreal is extensively decorated. Just about every building, tree and street have some kind of decoration around them. And the decorations don't just stop in the downtown area. Just about every neighborhood has their decorations and Christmas festivals. At night the city streets glow with thousands of red, green and white lights for the holidays.

Among Montreal's Christmas traditions is the annual production of The Nutcracker which has been presented by Les Grands Balets Canadiens for the past 40 years. A season favorite, Tchaikovsky's music tells the story of Clara and her nutcracker complete with gorgeous winter scenes.
Shopping is another enjoyable aspect of Christmas in Montreal. Although it is quite cold outside, many Montrealers manage to get their Christmas shopping done without having to brave the elements.
