    Montreal's OLD MONTREAL District

    Montreal's Old Montreal District
    Old Montreal (Vieux-Montréal in French) is the oldest part of Montreal. It is also the most popular tourist destination in all of Montreal. Drawing thousands of tourists to its streets every year, Old Montreal features some of Montreal's most popular tourist attractions such as the beautiful Notre Dame Basilica, Place Jacques-Cartier and the Bonsecours Market. Some of the oldest buildings in Montreal can be found in Old Montreal. There are buildings in Old Montreal that date all the way back to the 1600s. It also contains some of Montreal's most distinct buildings.

    Old Montreal is Montreal's most historical district and has a distinct look of its own. Many tourists often compare Old Montreal to an European city. Filled with informative museums, souvenir shops, cobbled streets and victorian street lamps, Old Montreal is rich is history. There are several wonderful restaurants and entertaining sidewalk cafés to chose from. These establishments open early and close late into the night.

    Old Montreal
    Old Montreal's major attraction is the Old Port (Vieux Port de Montréal in French). The Old Port is Montreal's attractions central. There is always something to do at the Old Port, regardless of the time of day. There are live shows, special events and constant entertainment at the Old Port.

    Old Montreal is right next to the Sait Lawrence River, and five minutes from Downtown. You can visit Old Montreal by guided tours, by bus tours or by Calèche. Calèches are horse-drawn carriages that tour most of Old Montreal. Calèches are the most popular way to see Old Montreal.
