Montreal's Mile End District
Montreal's Mile End district belongs to the Plateau-Mont-Royal district. However, the residents of Montreal's Mile End are quick to point out that they are quite different from the rest of the Plateau-Mont-Royal district. While the Mile End district is one of the most multicultural districts in all of Montreal, the rest of the Plateau-Mont-Royal district is primarily Francophone.
The Mile End district is a very artistic neighborhood with its own charm. Many of the residents are artists. It's also not uncommon to find musicians, writers and filmmakers as residents. For this reason, the Mile End is surrounded by various art galleries, boutiques, designer shops and cafés. Montreal's Mile End district is one of the more expensive areas to live in Montreal. There are various upscale shops and restaurants located in this area.
Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Saint Urbain as well as Parc Avenue are the main streets that run through the Mile End district. Other major streets that run through Montreal's Mile End are St Joseph, Fairmount, Van Horne and Mont-Royal.
